Flip Oakes

Flip Oakes is a versatile jazz artist who began performing on trumpet at age 8. Along the way in his professional career he also became skilled in brass instrument repair. With his understanding of both the playing and building aspects of brass horns, Flip decided to work with Zig Kanstul to develop his own line of instruments. His horns are now renowned for their unique, expressive playing qualities and extreme attention to detail. We were pleased to be able to refresh Flip's branding and build a new website for his company. Note: the unfortunate closing of the Kanstul Musical Instruments factory deprived Flip of his manufacturing source, and his website is no longer online. We’re still proud of the work we were able to do together with Flip Oakes Wild Thing Trumpets.

Concept, design, copywriting, photography, web development.

Because the Flip Oakes name and logo have an oak tree association, we wanted to bring that into the product photography, and found a source for reclaimed barn wood, which lent textural contrast to the reflective surfaces of the instruments.
